Everyone deserves to have the perfect body they desire, but some women are unable to achieve their dream figure, not due to lack of exercise or a healthy diet, but because of factors out of their control such as the aging process and genetics. In addition, childbearing and weight loss all affect a woman’s body and just like facial skin, the breasts too may begin to sag.
It not only makes daily life uncomfortable, but also affects women psychologically. They feel older than they actually are and this often makes them lose self-confidence and vigor.
Breast lift procedures available today are designed to improve the lives of women by giving their breasts a lift to enhance their overall look. It’s the perfect solution for women who suffer from the onset of breasts that begin to sag.
What is a Breast Lift and Who Needs it?
A breast lift or a mastopexy is a surgical procedure to correct the shape of the breasts, improve their firmness, and bring them into better proportion. It is done through the redistribution of the tissues, removal of excess, sagging skin, and raising the location of the areola to make them appear more perky. In general, the surgery is ideal for women who:
• Feel uncomfortable with their breast shape or position
• Have breasts that look flatter or longer than before
• Have breasts that point downwards
• Have areola and nipple regions that lie below the breast fold level
• Have asymmetrical breast
• Have stretched-out areola that are disproportionately large compared to the breasts
Based on the requirements of the patient and the degree of sagging in the breasts, plastic surgeons use different surgical techniques to bring about the desired changes to a woman’s breast region.
The most common breast lift techniques performed are crescent, donut, lollipop and anchor lifts. Among these options, the anchor technique is preferred by many plastic surgeons for the effective rectification of sagging breasts.
The Anchor Breast Lift
The anchor breast lift is very effective for treating breasts that exhibit excessive sagging. It derives its name from the shape of surgical incision required to perform the procedure, which is in the form of a nautical anchor.
There are three incisions made on the breasts. One is around the areola in a circular shape. Another incision is made vertically downwards from the areola to the bottom crease of the breast. The third runs along the crease under the breast in a crescent shape.
These cuts will allow your surgeon to access the underlying tissue and reshape them according to your goals. The nipple-areolar complex is moved up to a suitable height by making the necessary additional incisions. The areola may also be trimmed to reduce its size. After the excess skin is removed to tighten the breast, the skin is sutured back together.
Even though this technique may produce post-surgical marks, they are strategically placed to remain hidden within the contours of your body.
