American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) Board Certification and Maintenance of Certification

ABMS Board Certification and the ABMS Program for Maintenance of Certification (ABMS MOC®) are instrumental to the integrity of medical specialty care. They provide a trusted credential that is important to patients and relevant to physician practice.

Physicians that have achieved a medical license only have met the minimum competency requirements to diagnose and treat patients; however, this is not specialty specific.

Board Certification is a voluntary process and one that is very different from medical licensure. Certification by an ABMS Member Board involves a rigorous process of testing and peer evaluation that is designed and administered by specialists in the specific area of medicine. Board Certification demonstrates a physician’s exceptional expertise in a particular specialty and/or subspecialty of medical practice and serves as important credentials that the specialist provides a higher standard of patient care. Patients should look for these credentials as the best measure of a physician’s knowledge, experience, and skills providing quality health care within a given specialty.

The American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS)

The American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) is one of 24 medical specialty boards that make up the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS). Through ABMS, the boards work together to establish common standards for physicians to achieve and maintain board certification. The boards were founded by their respective specialties to protect the public by assessing and certifying doctors who meet specific educational, training, and professional requirements. Dr. Garramone, a Diplomate of the American Board of Plastic Surgery, has met the stringent requirements and is a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon.

Founded in 1931, the Society represents 94% of all board-certified plastic surgeons in the U.S., and more than a thousand plastic surgeons worldwide, making ASPS a global institution and leading authority on cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery.

The mission of ASPS is to advance quality care to plastic surgery patients by encouraging high standards of training, ethics, physician practice, and research in plastic surgery. The Society is a strong advocate for patient safety and requires its members to operate in accredited surgical facilities that have passed rigorous external review of equipment and staffing.

The American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons

Dr. Garramone is a Member of The American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons.

The American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS) is the leading organization of board-certified plastic surgeons specializing in cosmetic plastic surgery. ASAPS Active-Member plastic surgeons are certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

The American College of Surgeons

Dr. Garramone is a Fellow of The American College of Surgeons.

The American College of Surgeons is a scientific and educational association of surgeons that was founded in 1913 to improve the quality of care for surgical patients by setting high standards for surgical education and practice. The American College of Surgeons admits to its Fellowship only those surgeons whose professional activity is devoted to surgical practice and who agree to practice by the professional and ethical standards of the College.
