Fat Transfer

Have you ever wished that you could transfer fat from one part of your body to another? Well, getting a fat transfer is possible at Dr. Garramone’s office; giving you youthful, healthy-looking skin. A fat transfer (also known as a fat grafting) allows fat from one portion of your body (usually your abdomen or thighs) to be removed and placed into another area of your body that needs volume.

As the fat originates from your own body, fat transfer is the most well tolerated filler. You will not experience allergic reactions or rejections to the fat, thereby preventing some of the risk that comes with using fillers.  Common places for fat to be transferred to are the face, lips, hands, breast, and buttocks. Fat transfer can be a natural alternative to certain implants.

Fat can be transferred for:

  • Improving creased or sunken areas in face
  • Adding fullness to lips and cheeks
  • Changing your body contour, improving buttock size or shape
  • Revising scars
  • Filling depressions created by liposuction
  • Rejuvenation of hands and face

What to Expect During a Fat Transfer

The fat is taken from the donor area, which will be treated with a local anesthetic. Fat withdrawal will be accomplished using a syringe. The fat is then purified before re-injection into the areas that require it. The fat is then transferred into the areas that are deficient. A light dressing may be applied to protect both areas.

What to Expect After a Fat Transfer

There may be some swelling, discomfort, and bruising after the injection. After the treatment, little to no downtime may be needed, and you may return to normal activities after a few days. If the buttock is treated, you may not be able to sit or lie down on the injected area for 3 – 4 weeks after the procedure. Swelling can last for 2-3 weeks. There may be a need to repeat the procedure until desire effect is reached. This procedure is long lasting and in some cases permanent.
